SS Peter and Paul Comprehensive High School: A Golden Star Hidden Away in the Ends of the State

For the greater part of the mainstream media and the fore thoughts of almost all Akwa Ibomites within and outside the State, schools and colleges worth of attention are the headliners located in the horns of the state – the likes in Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket, Abak and the emerging ones celebrated in the larges columns of bill board stands decorating the metropolis.

But when on Wednesday, the 17th day of January 2018, the Publishing Crew of Penroll Corporation happened upon the newly appointed principal of the school, Rev. Fr. Nicholas Effanga, who is barely a year old in the facility, the Roman Clergy led the Crew to what turned out to be a revelation of mind-blowing proportion.

Not only is the school located in the most academically healthy environment one can ever think of but also, the school enjoys an extensive space and structures utilized for the academic nourishment of her students.

A simple tour of the complex revealed that the facility is fitted with a large, beautiful and secured accommodation for both boys and girls, staff quarters that ensures a twenty-four hours supervision of the compound, a state-of-the-art administrative block, giant academic blocks, well-equipped workshops, dining hall, laundry, football fields and other sport facilities.

However, the signboard of the school had revealed that the institution is privately managed and administered by the Catholic Diocese of Uyo. But on a close examination, Penroll Corporation gathered that the school was established in 1991 as a technical/vocational college with the objective of producing highly skilled manpower in the technical fields and as well as competent hands in the commercial/business fields.

In order for these objectives to be feasible, the school is fitted with functional departments like the Science Department, where Physics Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Geography, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Computer Science, and Data Processing are studied, all with functional laboratories. Also, there is the Art Department, where English Language, Literature, Government and Christian Religious Knowledge are studied. There is a Commercial Department where Commerce, Economics, Accounting and Office Practice are studied.
