A Magnificent Water Factory Emerges in Uyo

In the wake of a recent, but rather very discouraging research work of the World Health Organization which submitted that over two million persons still die from water borne diarrheal diseases, of which 1.5 million are children under the age of five in sub Sharan African, Cardinal Ekandem Seminary, Uyo, a first-class educational facility in Akwa Ibom State in academics and behavioural formation, has opened a giant water factory with one of the best sterilizing plants any way in the world.

The water factory, which is one of the business outlets of Cardesem Enterprises Nigeria, secured within the ambience of Cardinal Ekandem Seminary, 34, Dominic Utuk Street, Uyo, is christened Aqua Cardinale, a Latin designation translated in English as Cardinal Water. The product of this factory is contained in sachets, bottles of thirty-five and fifty CLs and dispenser containers.

In a short but very impactful ceremony that saw the presence of renowned personalities in the state, the Catholic Bishop for Uyo Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. John Ayah commissioned and blessed the new facility, calling on the help of God to see through the sustenance of the magnificent project.

Bishop John Ayah

In his speech, after been led through the facility by the Rector, the contractor and all the dignitaries present, the Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Ayah, commended the pragmatic leadership of the Rector, Fr. Ephraim Ukpe, whose meticulous and frugal financial management and administration has given the Seminary a new face lift in almost all areas of the institution. He observed with delight, that the water factory is of high standard with very spacious outlets for comfortable operations.

The Bishop remarked on the needless efforts of looking for financial assistance from foreign countries, advising that it is more realistic and profitable for the Church in Nigeria to strategize ways to accomplish their goals with funds generated within. He thanked Fr. Ukpe for being a conspicuous example for others to follow in all his developmental strides in the Seminary. The Bishop concluded by restating his resolve to support the Seminary in all aspect of their endeavours.

Responding, the Rector, Fr. Ephraim Ukpe thanked the Bishop for his love and dedication to matters concerning the Seminary, noting that without his (Bishop) approval the project would not have been possible. He stated that the establishment of the water factory will go along way in helping the Seminary, mostly in satisfying the requirements of the Nigerian educational curriculum with the inclusion of Entrepreneurial Studies as part of the Seminary’s academic calendar.

The project contractor, Mr. Michael Imoviara, confirmed that the project, aside from the financial gains, has added to the already established departments of the Seminary. He further noted that the Seminary has already enjoyed a wide range of academic fields, from the Science Departments which houses Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Agricultural Science; the Language Department which offers English, French, and Latin; Vocational Department which comprises Fishery, Poultry, and Piggery; the Arts Department which includes Literature, Government, Christian Religious Education, Christian Doctrine; to the new Music Theatre that is under construction.

Besides, Cardinal Ekandem Seminary, like any other Catholic Seminary in the world, is saddled with the task of training and graduating scholars found credible in character and in learning for the vocation of the Catholic Priesthood, productive civic responsibility and for responsible parenthood.

Erroneously, many believe that the seminary trains only priests, Cardinal Ekandem Seminary has trained out resourceful and intellectual Nigerians that are very productive in both the ecclesiastical and in the secular worlds. There are hundreds of resourceful Nigerians that can comfortably boast of the Seminary as their bedrock.

Admiring the first sealed sachet

What would interest us more is that Cardinal Ekandem Seminary has recently re-positioned itself greatly, under leadership of Fr. Ephraim Ukpe to meet the rising challenges of the contemporary world, by employing professional teachers, building of new state-of-the-arts facilities like the computer laboratory, the science laboratory, well equipped library, English and Literature Laboratory, good, secured and healthy hostels, an ultra-modern assembly hall and now, a standard water factory of very enviable standard.

With some parents and old boys

Furthermore, the institution has won many awards within and outside the state. Principal among them are the First Position (Senior) NTA indomie sponsored inter-School Debate, NTA Sponsored Best Speaker Award, First Position (Junior) in All Provincial Minor Seminary Debate, Second Position (senior) and Second Position (Junior) in All Provincial Minor Seminary Quiz and lots more. Besides this, the Seminary participates in Cowbell Mathematics with commendable results.

With very moderate fees and all the facilities needed for learning and formation, Cardinal Ekandem Seminary is one institution to enrol, for a parent who needs a solid educational and moral background for his/her child.
